A small, personal service
Joel's AI Friends is a hobby project run by Joel Thornton. Each "AI Friend" is a friendly, conversational assistant — with its own name and personality — powered by Anthropic's Claude models. You talk to it the same way you'd text a friend, through everyday messaging apps such as Discord or WhatsApp.
It is offered by invitation only, free of charge, to people Joel personally knows. It is not a commercial product, there is no sign-up page, and it is not available to the general public.
What an AI Friend can help with
- Everyday conversation, questions, and brainstorming.
- Looking things up on the web when you ask.
- Helping you keep track of tasks and notes.
- With your permission, helping with your own Google services — drafting and organizing email, managing your calendar, and working with your documents, spreadsheets, and slides.
Connecting your Google account (optional)
If you'd like your assistant to help with your email, calendar, or documents, you can connect your Google account. You do this through Google's own secure consent screen, where you see exactly what you're granting before you agree.
Your assistant uses that access only to perform the specific tasks you ask of it. We do not sell your data, do not use it for advertising, and do not use it to train AI models. You stay in control: you can disconnect at any time from your Google account permissions page, and you can ask Joel to delete your assistant and its history whenever you like.
